Hoodwinks - Growers
DISTRO
a venalism release
After a couple of excellent releases on the esteemed Outsider Art label, HOODWINKS return to Venalism with two more caustic long-form exercises in prickly abstraction and restless cacophony.
‘GROWERS’ skilfully builds upon the disruptive foundations laid on the duo’s previous Venalism release ‘Manhole Elegies’, interlacing recondite textural deviations with a primeval, obstreperous attack. It crackles with kinetic invention whilst simultaneously battering the listener with a lascivious brutality.
Screeds of roiling noise roar maniacally from the jump before deftly receding and contorting into turbulent new shapes. Passages of apparent restraint act more as exercises in endurance, as obnoxious droning vibrations buzz and grind incessantly and counterpointing textures punctuate fitfully.
‘GROWERS’ is a work of persistent, astringent convulsion, with no fixed points and no inhibition. Like needles pitting your brain at lighting speed, it compulsively constructs, deforms and dismantles itself with a ferocious determination and untethered, hyper-stimulated conviction.
